LAMPEDUSA

During 2022 I was on the island of Lampedusa, where the need for research and inner listening led me.

There I decided to create a new series of paintings.

I collected photographic material, reflections of the sea and human subjects, especially children.

I decided to combine different perspectives of these images and work with the projector and prints to study and paint them.

This series chronicles the emotions of the “inner child,” the one he has experienced, faces, and continues to awaken throughout his life through relationships.

A journey of emotions and states of mind.

Each painting arises from a moment of recollection, a down, an emptiness, an inner black hole, and then is reborn on canvas in the way you see it here.

The passage on the canvas of these emotions brings back a personal sublimation and transformation.

Art has led me to reprocess my wounds and memories, a bridge between the unconscious and the conscious.

“God There is” is part of the Lampedusa series.

“God there is” born after painting “I Can’t See,” I longed to make that child see, to open his eyes.

What was that child to see?
The emotions, the pain.
Accept, understand and move on.

A child can be used as an object, unconsciously. People are not always conscious of what they are doing and what consequences their actions will have.

A child is sensitive, pure and innocent.

A child who feels he or she is an object either reacts or suffers or both. He is not aware on a conscious level of this but the body, the actions speak.

The days after this painting I was telling an anecdote from my life to someone, telling her that one day I was at a big crossroads in life and had to choose.

I stood in front of the mirror with tears, pain on my body and inside me.
There on my left I had someone at that instant: he helped me choose.

After this confidence, I showed her this painting.
It was there that she pointed out to me that to the left of the child I had just painted was a face that I did not know I had painted and had not seen until that moment.

And there, I saw that moment so many years ago where I chose which direction to take because of that figure who was by my side for a few moments.

I think I brought to light that moment so closely guarded within and revealed to few.
